EARLIER UPDATE: An 18-year-old driver was killed and two other people were injured in a crash Thursday evening, according to a Scott County Sheriff’s Office news release.
Shortly before 6:30 p.m., the Scott Emergency Communication Center received a call for a crash in the 21100 block of Utica Ridge Road in Scott County. The roadway is a paved two-lane highway just north of the intersection of 210th Street and 210th Avenue (Utica Ridge
Road,) the release says.
The Scott County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene. Their initial investigation found that a green 2005 Ford Ranger was headed south on 210th Avenue while a maroon 2007 Chrysler Town and Country minivan and a red 2016 Honda Civic both were going north on 210th Avenue, the release says.
The release says the 2016 Honda was directly behind the 2007 Chrysler. It was determined through the initial investigation that the Ford Ranger truck crossed the center line, and struck the Chrysler minivan head-on.
The Honda Civic then struck the rear of the minivan and went into the east ditch. The 19-year-old man who was the driver and the only person in the Honda suffered minor injuries and was transported to Genesis Medical Center – East Campus. A 33-year-old woman, who was the driver and only person in the Chrysler Town and Country, was trapped inside and was extricated by fire department personnel. She was transported to Genesis East with serious injuries, the release says.
The 18-year-old man who was driving the Ford Ranger, and who was the only one in it, was fatally injured. “It was determined that (he) had not been wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident,” the release says.
He was pronounced deceased at the scene. The crash remains under investigation by the Scott County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Team.
The Scott County Sheriff’s Office, Scott Emergency Communication Center, Medic EMS, and Eldridge Fire Department all assisted with the crash. No names had been released late Thursday.
