'I'd danced all my life and was used to having hernias but when I had the latest removed the doctors said "under no circumstances must you have sex for the next six weeks".
'Just the week before, I’d met my now-husband, and I disobeyed doctors and it saved my life because a complication with my surgery took me back to the hospital, which was when they found my tumour.'

This meant a trip back to hospital, where his cancer was discovered.
John had to have a testicle removed, and now has a prosthetic, of which he added: 'I said just make it look like it looks now. I still had the anaesthetic and I remember thinking go for the one that’s a little bit bigger, go for one that’s one size up.'
He went on: 'There are lots of men that have had both testicles removed but I wanted it to look the same because then it would mean nobody would know. When I was naked nobody would know so it helped me keep my secret.
'Your masculinity is all wrapped up down there, it shouldn’t be, but it is. I don't think [prosthetic testicles] are offered at all but I think it should be offered because it’s a huge deal. If you’ve had cancer, a huge part of your identity is missing then.'

John - who joins the likes of AJ Pritchard, Gemma Collins, Spencer Matthews and Dolly Parton's sister Stella on Celebrity MasteChef next month, went on to reveal he has been sober now for 217 days.
'It feels great. I am reborn,' he exclaimed. 'It's not just actors that play dress up - it's all of us. It was something I did for me.'
He explained further, adding: 'I'm laying it out there and saying I've relied on this for 30 years, I’ve drunk and I've used drugs and even food. [I] would go out all night and trash [myself] and it was little John [his past self] that would make me go to work.

'My mum passed away in April. I was feeling sorry for myself and for some reason [one day] I allowed myself to feel. Just that tiny little space opened up and I felt myself.
'I felt that little boy inside of me with all that dream and aspiration and I allowed him to flood me.
'It's left me completely. I'd loved to say it was a real struggle for me, but it’s not. We had a BBQ yesterday, and we had people over and drinking and I'm like great knock yourself out.
'I want to do everything I did, I just want to do it sober.'
Better now: 'I want to do everything I did, I just want to do it sober,' John concluded
