Whirlwind Jimmy White is looking to cause a storm at this week’s Champion of Champions.
The golden oldie, 61, secured his spot at the illustrious 16-man invitational event in Bolton by winning the World Seniors Championship. And six-time Crucible runner-up White wants to stick two fingers up to the “haters” who say the Seniors champion shouldn’t gain entry to the tournament.
Ahead of facing world No.4 Mark Allen, White roared: “I’m not there to make up the numbers, I’m there to win it.

“I’m playing really well in practice. I can’t wait. I don’t care about the haters. They also say the Shoot Out champion and the Six Red champion shouldn’t be in it either, but you’ve got to win those tournaments on merit.
“The Seniors champion deserve to be there. It’s really important for the Seniors that you get a spot. I’ve played in it a couple of times and should’ve beaten Ronnie when I was 3-0 up a few years ago so the game's there."

Amazon Buy NowWhite will be donning one of the snazzy new t-shirts as snooker ditches its traditional bow tie and waistcoat attire for coloured tops with players’ nicknames across the back. Former world champion Judd Trump has called for a change to the dress code to appeal to younger audiences in recent years.
The outfits will be available to buy online for £45 so fans can buy their favourite players shirts. Icon White said: “You cannot really go and buy a Jimmy White dress suit, can you? So it’s a good job.
"I’m a traditionalist really and I really like the suit we wear because it’s smart. I didn’t like it years ago when they said you could wear a tie in the afternoon instead of a bow tie.
“I think it should be bow tie and waistcoat. I know Judd doesn’t like it but that’s because he doesn’t get on with the bow tie as it affects his cueing so he wears the flat bow ties. I’m really looking forward to the event. Emily Frazer and Matchroom have done a great job.”

The Rocket will have an instant shot at revenge against Zhang Anda after the potter nicknamed Mighty Mouse hit the jackpot at the International Championship.
Chinese cueman Zhang halted the world No.1’s bid to become the first man in history to win 40 ranking titles with a 9-6 semi-final victory.
Zhang, who lost in last month’s English Open final toJudd Trump, went on to make a magical maximum 147 during his 10-6 final victory over Tom Ford in Tianjin yesterday as he banked the £170,000 top prize - which will rise to almost £300,000 with tournament spin offs, including qualifying for this week’s event at the last attempt.
It’s been an incredible journey to the top for the new world No.15 who almost quit the sport during his 20s and fell off the tour back in 2020 when he chose to return to China to be with his family.
